Emmie Rose and Jack are both third year PhD students funded by the Wolfson Foundation.

Emmie Rose is a PhD student in Medieval Studies at the University of York, researching Cistercian exempla collections. She is especially interested in how the white monks interacted with the world outside the monastery, and in competing visions of Cistercianism. Outside of the Cistercians, her research interests range widely within the history of religion in the high middle ages, including preaching and the use of exempla, and the founding of new religious orders, especially for women. When not thinking about medieval religion, she enjoys baking, walking and spending time with her cats. Follow Emmie Rose on Twitter at @EmmieRosePG.

Jack is a student in the department of History at University College London. His PhD project examines the interrelationship between ‘affectivity’, the emotional disposition of the human will towards either virtuous or sinful acts, and perception in twelfth-century De anima ('On the Soul') treatises written by Cistercian and Victorine theologians. His broader interests are in medieval understandings of anthropology and psychology, cosmology, scholasticism and the history of monastic institutions. His hobbies include playing badminton, running and exploring East London's parks and waterways. Follow Jack on Twitter at @fordj002
